Lookout Mountain Park is in Golden Colorado, Jefferson county, off of highway 1-76.
Lookout Mountain is a 7,377-foot peak in the Rocky Mountains, right in the foothills. It is covered in beautiful pine trees, and the elevation is high enough you can see a beautiful view of the city, and the Rocky Mountains as well. It’s quite captivating.
You can drive up the top of the mountain, or hike. There are many trails to hike on, within Lookout Mountain. That is what makes this destination so great besides the beauty.
Bluff Trail on Lookout Mountain is 5 miles. You have to pay to use this trail.
Big Daddy Loop on the Bluff Trail is 10 miles and is great for runners. You can see the valleys and the Raccoon Mountains on this trail. A half mile into the loop you can view Judith’s Bluff, where you can go on a suspended rock and overlook the valley. You can also see short caves.
Meadow & Forest Loop Trails at Lookout Mountain Nature Center. This is an easy hike that you can take the kids on. It is only 0.6 miles. This is also a great place for kids to learn about wildlife. There are picnic tables, and this is a great place to have a picnic. The preservation is 110 acres and a home to bobcats, black bears, and elk.
They also have exhibits inside and an observation room.
Windy Saddle Lookout Mountain Trail is 4 miles.
There is Buffalo Bills museum and grave. Buffalo Bill was a Buffalo hunter in the wild west. He was born in 1846. It is a great history lesson. There is also a gift shop. Buffalo Bill was buried on Lookout Mountain in 1917.
There are also many other attractions, but I love the view, the trees, the hills, and the QUIET! You can hear the birds singing, and there is not any notice from the hustle and bustle of the city. The views are very captivating, the fresh air is refreshing!
I have pictures and videos of the trail, history, and scenery.
It is very close to Denver, if you just want to get away.
